Many children have very little food from Friday afternoons at school until Monday morning. With this in mind, our Missions Board has formed a partnership with Rock Rest Elementary School, under the direction of Principal Wendy Gravely, to provide 25 backpacks with “child friendly” and nutritious foods for weekends. Ms. Gravely will determine how the packs will be distributed on Fridays from now until the end of the current school year. She will work to alternate distribution to allow as many children as possible to benefit.
How To Help
We need your help in providing food for the backpacks. Below is a list of many of the foods that groups have provided in working with other schools. You do not have to provide 25 of each item, just provide what you feel that you can. Also, you may find other similar foods — these are only suggestions. There will be a clearly marked container in the gathering area which will remain there until the end of the school year. Anita Gross, a member of our church and on the faculty at Rock Rest, has agreed to deliver the backpacks to the school on Friday and return the empty backpacks on Monday. Several of you have volunteered to help pack the food and we are grateful. We hope this mission project is one the entire church can become excited about and participate in.
Thank you.
